“Verzwinden” means in old Dutch: disappear, at the moment people used to make an open space in the forest to start growing vegetables or making a settlement.
The research project is about parts of natur, plants, corals, polar ice etc. that disappear because of human actions and about the disappearing of people, most of the
time when they are on the run, because of natural dissasters, wars or political or religious problems.
In this research we will take wool felt as basic material, that will be lightened by UV, covered with large transparant sheets like contact prints.
The UV will bleach the wool felt and will leave a photografic image behind.
Next to the technical elements to be researched, there is a large amount of content questions to be answered in this project. Technically we will be supported bythe inventor Gertus de Sauvage, who has a lot of experience in light sience, connected to the growing houses of farmers in de Westland NL.
Thanks to the support of Mondrian Fund NL, Amarte Fonds and Het Cultuurfonds we are able to put in a lot of time and attention into this research. Expected results will be visible end of 2024, beginning of 2025.
